What is the srhs?
The Students of Reitz Humanist Society (SRHS) is a community activist group based at F.J. Reitz. While there is a teacher sponsoring the group and members of the community can join, it is primarily student led and governed. The goals of the SRHS can be found within its mission statement. However, it can be summed up into the following: encouraging others to put humans and human-life at the center of our moral outlooks by leading with example.
What does the SRHS do?
The Students of Reitz Humanist Society (SRHS) organizes four key projects a year. Each semester is supposed to have one community project and one fundraiser. Both projects must satisfy the mission statement and benefit the community in some way. In addition to, and perhaps even while, organizing the four key projects, the SRHS members partner with, help out, and volunteer for other organizations in the community which share our values. The main goal is to advocate for humanism and to help our community grow.
Stay updated
Events and meetings are recorded by the SRHS Secretary in writing through the form of a ReCap. SRHS ReCaps are a basic concept of the more formal approach via minutes. While our recordings are not as detailed, everything discussed at a meeting or everything that happened during an event/project will be published in under the ReCaps page. You can go to the ReCaps page by click the button below.
Our leaders
The Students of Reitz Humanist Society is a direct democracy of primarily students. Everything is discussed and voted on; however, when an action has been voted to be taken, there are specific officers that are elected to carry out the action. There are also officers that routinely work to keep the organization maintained and running. There are eight officers in total: President, Vice President, Parliamentarian, Secretary, Historian, Events Coordinator, Communication Coordinator, and the Online Director. Detailed descriptions of each can be found within the constitution and you can see who the current officers are by clicking the button below. We are also sponsored by two teachers. Our sponsors ensure that we are on the right track and give us important advice now and then to help us become stronger leaders in our community. With that said, our sponsors typically stick to the background and let the students lead.
Who can join?
Anyone is eligible for membership. The Students of Reitz Humanist Society is primarily Reitz Students and is based at Reitz; but, it is a community advocacy organization. To be a member, one need only to submit the membership information form and be active. If a member is not active because of her/his schedule, the SRHS leaders aren't going to just kick them out. Communication between the leaders and the general membership is important. With that said, if someone joins and then just doesn't show up to meetings and/or doesn't participate in projects then they would be removed from the membership list. our constitution
The key to success is being organized, having a stable foundation, and following order. The Students of Reitz Humanist Society is successful because we took the time to write a detailed, important, and well-structured constitution. This document, which can be found by clicking the button below, sets up the order with which the organization operates.
